Connection Methods

Method 1: Command Line (LND)

# Connect via Tor (recommended for privacy)
lncli connect 02a1b2c3d4e5f6a7b8c9d0e1f2a3b4c5d6e7f8a9b0c1d2e3f4a5b6c7d8e9f0a1b2c3{{ $node['onion'] }}

# Or via clearnet
lncli connect 02a1b2c3d4e5f6a7b8c9d0e1f2a3b4c5d6e7f8a9b0c1d2e3f4a5b6c7d8e9f0a1b2c3{{ $node['clearnet'] }}

Method 2: Command Line (Core Lightning)

# Connect
lightning-cli connect 02a1b2c3d4e5f6a7b8c9d0e1f2a3b4c5d6e7f8a9b0c1d2e3f4a5b6c7d8e9f0a1b2c3 mumu7octopus3lightning.onion:9735

After Connecting

Connecting just establishes a peer relationship – no funds are committed yet. To transact, you'll need to open a channel.

What you can do after connecting:

  • ✅ Open a channel to LOM (outbound)
  • ✅ Request LOM opens a channel to you (inbound)
  • ✅ Route payments through LOM (once channel is open)

Tor vs Clearnet

Aspect Tor (.onion) Clearnet (IP)
Privacy Excellent IP exposed
Speed Slower (~500ms latency) Fast (~50ms latency)
Reliability Occasional timeouts Very reliable
Setup Requires Tor Works anywhere

Our recommendation: Use Tor if privacy matters to you. Use clearnet if you need maximum reliability and speed. Either works great with LOM.

Verify Connection

# LND - List connected peers
lncli listpeers | grep 02a1b2c3d4e5f6a7

# Core Lightning
lightning-cli listpeers | grep 02a1b2c3d4e5f6a7

If you see our pubkey in the output, you're connected! 🐙
